Write the event definition first
Describe the action in plain language before choosing a label. A button click means someone clicked; it does not prove that a request reached your system. For a completed enquiry, define the success condition and check that the event fires only after that condition is met. Google recommends using appropriate recommended events, including generate_lead, where they fit the action.

Separate helpful signals from outcomes
Form starts, page engagement and contact-link clicks can help diagnose a journey. They should not automatically be treated as equivalent to an enquiry. In GA4, key events identify actions that matter to the business. Choose them deliberately and document the distinction between an interaction, an enquiry and a qualified opportunity.

Test the awkward cases
Test a normal submission, a validation error, a failed response and a repeat click. Check whether a refresh or return visit causes a duplicate. If the journey crosses to another domain, such as a booking platform, investigate that transition as well. Record what you can and cannot observe so the dashboard does not conceal an implementation limitation.
Bring qualification into the discussion
The sales process often holds information analytics alone cannot supply. Agree how the team records qualified, unsuitable and duplicate enquiries. Review those outcomes alongside acquisition data where a suitable connection is available. Do not send names, email addresses or other personally identifiable customer information into Google Analytics as event parameters.
Make the report answer a decision
A weekly discussion might ask which sources produce relevant enquiries, where visitors fail to complete a form and whether the team follows up promptly. Keep definitions visible and nominate an owner for investigating changes. Analytics and advertising platforms may report different totals because their methods and available data differ. Treat those discrepancies as something to understand rather than conceal.
